Card Surcharge Ban

From 1 October 2026 new RBA legislation will be implemented that means businesses (Scout Groups) will no longer be allowed to add a surcharge on EFTPOS, Mastercard or Visa payments. If your formation or event currently charges a card surcharge you will need to ensure you plan for this change, by building the costs into activity pricing and fees.

For those charging a surcharge on stripe payments through Xero the steps to turn this off are:

  1. In the sales menu, select online payments.
  2. Select the default settings tab.
  3. Under pass on processing fees, click the menu icon, then select switch off.
  4. Click turn off passing on processing fees to confirm.
