Electrical Safety Fortnight is a great opportunity for every Scout Group to ask: “How well do you know the electrical system in your Scout Den?”
Start with your switchboard. Does it contain old-style fuses, circuit breakers, safety switches (RCDs), or a combination?
Remember, circuit breakers primarily protect wiring and equipment, while safety switches protect people.

Consider asking a local electrician to conduct an electrical safety inspection and help identify what protection is installed and whether improvements are needed.
Also remember to:
• Look up for powerlines before pioneering, erecting flagpoles or marquees.
• Look down for underground services before digging.
• Switch off the electrical supply before entering ceiling or roof spaces.
• Never ignore a shock or tingle — stay clear, warn others and report it.

Review FAC-PG-01-9 Electrical Safety at Scout Facilities (attached)
Take 10 minutes to look around your Den.
• Do you know what's in your switchboard?
• Which circuits have safety switch protection?
• Are there overhead or underground services you need to be aware of?
Know your Den. Know your electrical risks.
