Opening a Formation Bank Account

Opening a Formation Bank Account

Please refer to QBSI 6.3 for the requirements regarding bank accounts.

Scouts Queensland currently have their operating bank account with Westpac Banking Corporation.  There are advantages for Formations holding bank accounts with Westpac, as this gives finance staff the ability to assist you if a transaction needs authorisation or if online access changes are required.  We act under written instruction from the Formation’s Executive Support Committee.

To open accounts with other banks, please obtain a letter of authorisation from the Chief Commissioner to submit to your bank, this can be obtained by contacting financehelpdesk@scoutsqld.com.au

Please note that Minutes of the Executive Support Committee meeting as per item 1 below will be required.

Before requesting the Finance Team arrange opening accounts with Westpac, please have the following available:

      1.       Signed Minutes of the Executive Support Committee meeting that request new accounts be opened and who will have access to them.  Bank accounts are set up with a methosd of operation as any two to operate, except for debit card accounts.  As most transactions are conducted online, we suggest only two to four people be formal bank signatories (who will have online access as well).

      2.       Each person who will access the bank account/s, as a signatory or online, requires a Westpac Customer number.  To obtain a number, the person needs to visit their local Westpac branch with sufficient photo identification to meet the 100-point check.  If agreeable and if the person is going to be a signatory, they should also record their signature with Westpac as this will make it easier when producing the paperwork for the new account/s.  If Westpac don’t have your signature on file, the paperwork is sent to the Formation for signing and posted back to the Finance Team.

      3.       Anyone who will have bank account access must be active on SMS.
