Requirements for applicant ID photos
As this photo is for identification purposes, there are some
specific criteria that this photo must meet. These requirements are listed
below:
Your Photo Must:
Be a minimum size when printed of 35-40mm wide and 45-50mm high
Be a good quality image of you
taken in full colour
Have a plain, light-coloured
background (e.g. cream, pale blue, or white)
Have uniform lighting (no shadows
across or behind your face), sharp focus and must be clear
Be less than 18 months old at the start of the event (so please use a recent photo when you submit your
application)
Your Photo Must Show:
Your head and top of your shoulders close up, so
that your face measures between 32mm and 36mm from the bottom of the chin to
the crown
Your shoulders square on (not looking over shoulder)
Your face square on (edges of your face should be visible)
You looking straight at the camera (not tilted head)
You with a neutral expression and your mouth closed
(not laughing or frowning)
Your eyes open and clearly visible, (no hair in
eyes)
Head coverings
The photograph must show you without any hat or other
head covering. If you wear a head covering for religious reasons, it’s
quite OK to wear it in your photo. However your facial features from the bottom
of your chin to the top of your forehead and both edges of your face must be
clearly shown.
Submitting Your Photo
You can submit your photo electronically by uploading the
image file (in .jpg, .img or .bmp format) to the application website by
following the instructions on the ID Photo page.

If
You Photo is NOT Suitable
If you submit a photo that doesn’t meet the requirements outlined
above, you will receive an e-mail letting you know that you need to submit
another one. If you have put in an online application, simply log back into the
application system using your user name and password and upload the new photo
in the same way you did the original. Your old photo will be over written with
your new one.
Webcam
Photos
It’s OK to take your photo using your webcam, but please take
extra care if you chose to do this. You photo must be free from any glare (from
computer screens, camera flashes, etc.) and the background must be plain and
neutral in colour. Many webcam photos result in very dark backgrounds or uneven
lighting. This isn’t suitable for your ID photo.
If in doubt it is better to have someone take your photo using a
regular digital camera and upload the file.
