Be Aware of Powerlines

Safety Alert - Be Aware of Powerlines

At a recent scout activity while doing pioneering construction, there was a near miss identified with one group constructing too close to some overhead powerlines.

The activity was paused immediately, participants warned of the potential danger, advised to be more aware of their surroundings and then relocated to a different area to erect their items safely.

IMPORTANT

Overhead powerlines (whether live or not) are dangerous and can cause electric shock.

Ensure you are aware of your surroundings during all scouting activities and keep your distance as per relevant exclusion zones (3m: regular powerlines / 6m: transmission lines) and safety laws (state & federal)!

Key Learnings:

·         Exclusions zones keep people, operating plant and vehicles a safe distance from energised overhead powerlines during scouting activities

·         No part of a person, operating plant, or a vehicle should enter an exclusion zone while the overhead powerlines are energised (live)
